Nearby Wilkes-Barre boasts more than a dozen parks with hiking trails, tennis courts, horseshoe courts and a shuffleboard area. The area features Yankees Minor League Baseball, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Minor League Hockey TeamMohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the F.M. Kirby Center for performing arts.

Five local colleges and universities offer lifelong learning courses, athletic and cultural programs, art exhibits and entertainment events.


Living in the picturesque mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the region offers many recreational, shopping, cultural and educational opportunities. Residents of Masonic Village enjoy fun, fitness, and enrichment right outside their door with exercise classes, wellness and educational seminars, and an 18 hour golf course all available right on-site. Tai Chi for Arthritis® is designed to improve the quality of life for people with arthritis using Sun-style Tai Chi. This style includes agile steps and exercises that may improve mobility, breathing and relaxation. The movements don’t require deep bending or squatting.

Meeting Details:
Wednesdays, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., in the Irem Clubhouse. Spring session (March-May) and Fall session (Sept-Dec).
Cost: $65/session (first class is free).

Burn more calories and strengthen your body in less time by using poles.

Meeting Details:
2015 spring and fall sessions: Wednesdays, April 1 – May 27, 2015 (Fall dates to TBA)
Cost: $30 for nine sessions.

Join fellow residents for light to moderate stretching, both sitting and standing. Men and women of all levels are welcome.

Meeting Details:
Tuesdays, from March 17 – May 20, 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m., in the Irem Clubhouse Acacia Room. One time cost of $30 for all sessions.

Social Groups

Venture into the community for breakfast at local establishments.

Meeting Details:
Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. Meet in the Walther Apartments lobby. Costs will vary.

Association meetings are headed by the resident executive committee which is made up of elected representatives of the villas and apartments. The committee also meets monthly with the executive director to discuss items of interest to residents.

Association Meetings are held quarterly in the Irem Clubhouse at 2 p.m. All residents are invited to attend.

A subset of the Resident Association, the activities committee meets monthly to develop the activities program. A monthly calendar is provided to each Masonic Village resident.

Meets monthly in the Walther Apartments – Resident Lounge.

Gather for good food and companionship. Each week, a guest speaker addresses a different topic. A portion of the cost is donated to charity. Attendees are also asked to bring a non-perishable item for the local food bank.

Tuesdays at 8 a.m. in the Irem Clubhouse. Cost is $8 per person.
