When leaving the hospital after an illness, injury or surgery, you may not be able to expect life to proceed as normal right away. Depending on the reason for hospitalization, a fair amount of rehabilitation may need to take place. Through intensive, individualized treatment plans, Masonic Villages’ Transitional Care Unit gets you back on your feet and, most importantly, back home.

“Short-term rehab after a hospital stay is the best way for patients to return to the highest level of functioning as fast as possible,” John. C. Mast, M.D, C.M.D., Lancaster General Health Physician at Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, said.

Ray Betz stayed in a private suite in the Transitional Care Unit in Elizabethtown after his knee replacement. Under the direction of a physician, a team of physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists; nurses; care managers; and social workers created a personalized program based on Ray’s needs and goals.

“Staff were very accommodating and went the extra mile in my care,” Ray recalls. “They got me back to good health.”

Ray was able to gain back his independence and has now resumed his regular activities after his knee replacement.

In addition to orthopedic conditions, the Transitional Care Unit can help patients recover from strokes, cardiac events, respiratory conditions, diabetes complications, infections and more.

Transitional care services are offered at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown and the Masonic Village at Sewickley.
